No doubting Matthew McConaughey's talent but the film itself was underwhelming.
Good old Leo. He nails it but the monologues are too long and, dare I suggest, a tad self indulgent. It's like Mr Scorcese didn't have the nerve to say "cut". Too long.
Alarm bells ring when you see the screenplay is written by the playwright and yes, it is, to all intents and purposes, a play on film. But Merryl Streep is still utterly brilliant. It's a shame I spent so much time thinking: "What on earth has Julia Roberts done to her top lip"?
